I can go along with that, Candace. My gut still tells me that the difference in size and the fact that men are more physically aggressive than women is at the core of why women can respond defensively. If you feel you're not respected as a person, with equal contribution and opportunity, how else can you feel but defensive. I've also noticed that some men talk down to women, whether because of a need to assert their dominance, or a need to feel superior to someone. It would be natural for a woman to respond defensively in such cases.

Actually, as these posts go on, you will find that being a man back in the day of Naphrey was not all it was cracked up to be. I'm not going to say any more about it, but you will be horrified at some of his recommendations to maintain your virility.

Honestly, I just thought it was rather funny at how incredibly sexist most of these remarks were and, as I point out at the end, it explains a lot about why women have been, and are, so defensive.

OK, you wouldn't like this, but its my male view. No, I do not agree with the negative tone of the ancient observations. But, I believe that many are based on surface observations that do not get at the reality or true meaning. Here's what I mean.

I've heard over and over, from females, that men are not romantic, we're simply physical creatures with no interest in the deeper emotions. Nothing could be further from the truth. We do think of and want romance, just in a different way. If a woman were to look deeper, penetrate the fort we encircle ourselves with, the love of our mate is central to our existence. Now lets take the naive last observation you posted, "Women are closer to children and savages than to an adult civilized man.” Forget the savage comment, I can't relate to that at all. Lets deal with the "children" statement. To someone wishing only to make circumferential statements, that might appear to some men to be true. My take is different. When I look at a woman I love, or adore, or enjoy, I do see a child like joy with life, a willingness to see the good and ignore the bad. To look past the demons, and see sunlight. Truth is, its one of the attributes that draws me to truly feminine woman. They brighten up a dark day, make me happy to me around them.

Men on the other hand are more pragmatic. We see demons and dragons around ever corner. Its a matter of survival. You have to look over your shoulder in case the saber tooth is stalking or you didn't survive the hunt. Those characteristics carried over into todays alpha males.

Point is, if we peel back the surface and open our eyes, something that on the surface may appear shallow is in fact the wonder that attracts us to one another.

Ok, you can yell at me now.

So what is your take on all that, Cand? I mean, its a bunch of ponderings from guys that were surrounded by an environment 2 hundred years regressed from ours. What is your conclusion (I know what mine is, you voice what this means to you first.)
